So, you’ve discovered the reading community. Either through Bookstagram or BookTok. Maybe you’ve discovered your community of readers through Goodreads, Libib, or another book-tracking app. Maybe you’ve gone old-school and joined a local book club.
But, how many books should you really be reading if you want to truly call yourself a book nerd, an avid reader, a bookworm?
Have you ever found yourself feeling like a fraud because you only read one book a month? Maybe only a couple of books per year?

I’ve met people who read multiple books per week. I’ve even known one who can read multiple books per day (really, I’m not exaggerating).
I’ve sometimes found myself feeling like an imposter because my reading goals on my Goodreads are never in the triple digits. I’ve had to take months off from reading (for fun) because of grad school because I didn’t have the time or the energy to start a novel.
I asked myself so many times: am I really a reader? I was so nervous to talk about my love for books with my cohort or other readers because I wasn’t sure if I could keep up in conversation about new books or well-known authors.
So, I started thinking. How many books do you need to read to actually consider yourself a true bookworm, an honest-to-goodness reader? After much research and reflection. I’ve finally found the answer.
However many you want.
You can read one book per day, one book per week, one book per month, one book per year and still consider yourself a reader. It doesn’t matter.
Actually, it doesn’t even have to be novels. Do you like reading poetry? Or blog posts? Do you like to read magazines or diary entries? Do you like to read the newspaper?
If you enjoy to consume words, no matter where they come from, you’re a reader. And you can find confidence in the fact that the reading community welcomes you. True lovers of reading want anyone and everyone to be a part of our community.
Because, without readers, there would be no writers. If people weren’t happily consuming the words that are written, there would be no need to write them.
Let me welcome you, reader, to this community. Please know that whatever you read has value if you decide that it does. And I bet there are plenty of people who are willing to hear your thoughts on it… including me.

So, let’s chat! What are you reading right now? What do you like to read? What about it (whatever it is) interests you?
Readers, like people, come in all shapes and sizes. There’s no rule book, no standard, no right or wrong.
I can’t wait to continue connecting with readers like you.
Happy reading!
With warmth and ink-filled notebooks,
Danni Writes.
